6.8 Pocket calculators
In 1972, the HP 35 was produced, the first pocket calculator capable of calculating logarithms and trigonometric function values, which you see on the left side above the striking Olivetti Divisumma 18. While almost all calculator manufacturers were focused on price reduction, HP maintained high costs, increased functionality, and introduced the first programmable pocket calculator to the market in 1974, the HP 65, programmable via a magnetic card.
Texas Instruments, a manufacturer of integrated circuits, was a leading company in the field of pocket calculators, with products such as the TI-35, or the famous TI-58 which achieved great success due to its ease of programming.
Italian products from Lagomarsino and Olivetti are also on display.
