4.1  The CEP console

University of Pisa
Entering the room, you'll see a desk in front of you, this is the CEP console, the interface between the human operator and the computer. On the right side, there is the Olivetti teleprinter, The Olivetti company collaborated for the construction of the CEP, while designing the prototype of the ELEA series. Through the teleprinter, it was possible to send short commands to the machine and write programs on the perforated tape you see, rolled up, to your left, above the line printer. In the center, a panel with buttons and lights allowed the user to receive immediate information on the machine's operation. The management and maintenance of the CEP was entrusted to specialized technicians who wrote and executed programs on behalf of users, and returned the results printed on paper sheets.
